[EXCERPT] . . . .

Piotrowski & Van Ryzin (2007) underscored that issues pertaining to governmental secrecy and open government have been subject of public debate. Citizen's interest in and demand for government vary in degree. They developed several indices to measure citizens' demand for transparency at the local level and explore its correlates. The study suggests that there are several dimensions to the public's demand for transparency including fiscal, safety, government concerns, and principled openness. They adduced that age, political ideology, confidence in government leaders, frequency of contacting government and the perception that that there is not enough access to government drives the publics demand for transparency. However, determinants differ for each dimension. The above named factors predict citizen's actual requests for government information.

Christensen and Laegreid (2005) focused on trust in government including the parliament, the cabinet, the civil service, local councils, political parties, and politicians. They averred that trust could be measured in terms of specific support as indicated by people's satisfaction with specific public services. The duo established that the citizen's trust in government is such that a high level of trust in one institution like the local government extends to other institutions. Political and cultural variables were also found to have strongest overall effect on variations in people's trust in government. One factor stood out: general satisfaction and democracy. According to Christensen and Laegreid (2005), citizens who are satisfied with specific public services have a higher level of trust in public institutions than citizens who are dissatisfied. Trus

t in government is influenced by demographic factors like age, education, and occupation.

Some literatures seem not to support the relationship that exists between government performance and citizen's trust. The difficulty of empirically demonstrating the link between government performance and citizens' trust comes about because of difficulty in defining and measuring government performance meaningfully (Yang & Holzer, 2006). Performance measurement can improve citizens' trust in government through citizens' participation in evaluation process.

I would like you to do a literature review on the subject and this is for a high quality journal. In the review you need to define trust and give 2 or 3 definitions. Show how trust is related to performance and satisfaction in government services, specifically local government. You should also include experiences from developed and developing countries.

Satisfaction and government perofrmance--which causes which?. The paper should have references as books and journal articles. I will be using raw data from my field work to write the paper so I need this high quality literature review to accompany this piece. I will basically do the introductory part and my general hypotheses is that the more people that are satisfied with local government performance--the trust levels will be high. So we need to show the relationship between satisfaction and trust as well in the literature review.
