Conversely if there is no vent provided all the heat and combustion products would be forced to get out through the initial point of entry that was used by the firefighter on the hose line. This implies that the fire service environment requires that people rely on each other as a team in order to safely and effectively achieve the overall mission of putting out a fire (Dugan, 2009).

Top function effectively as a team and achieve the overall goal which is putting out a fire, fire fighters have to ensure that they accomplish several tasks on the fire ground. These tasks are termed as the basic SOPs of the fire service environment. For instance, the has to put water on the fire and ventilation carried out on the fire building, while another team must ensure that they gain entrance into the building and carry out a search. These required and basic jobs have to be carried out at every fire to which firefighters are responding to. This implies that without some form of plan and a team that is qualified to execute the plan then it would be dangerous to enter a building on fire. The firefighters have to perform the tasks that are assigned to them from a particular location. A fire fighting team that is properly functioning need not only manpower but they should have the right knowledge, training and tools in order for them to execute the required assignment. The biggest perks of teamwork is to ensure that the firefighters are prevented from freelancing.it is important to note that every team has to work together in order to accomplish and reach the goal as that have been set by the department. This means that each firefighter has to consider themselves as a builder of the team as well as a high quality member of the team (Dugan, 2009).

There are several skills that are necessary to work as a successful and ethical team member.one of these skills is respect for ones colleagues; the firefighters within a team should always ensure that they understand that everyone on the team has with them knowledge, unique technical expertise and experience hence they should be valued by other members of the team. The second skill is responsibility meaning that a team member has to be proactive in that if they notice they have a task which needs to be done and one has the skills required to accomplish one should ensure that they speak out and take up the task. Another skill is effective communication since good communication skills are a requirement for teamwork (Vitale, 2008).
