All staff members are informed of planned moves to new systems and automated processes prior to implementation. This helps set the stage for adoption and buy-in from across the organization and alerts everyone that trainings will follow (Childs et al., 2011). Trainings are comprehensive and mandatory for anyone directly involved in patient care. One important step of management prior to rolling out PharMerica was to conduct focus groups to get the feedback of personnel who will interact most closely with the new systems. This allowed for managers to gain valuable information regarding ways to improve office processes. There has been a deliberate effort to ensure that new systems and applications mesh with the organization's central practice and personnel.Our healthcare information systems have resulted in enhanced security and access controls. Only select personnel now have access to select information. The proper security clearances for choice aspects of the system are in place and employees are trained accordingly (Childs, et al., 2012). In addition, our in-house systems have been set up to fully comply not only with the HIPAA Privacy Rules (which apply to both "paper" and electronic patient files), but also the HIPAA Security Rules (which apply to electronic patient files only), to make sure that the confidentiality, security and integrity of such records is safeguarded properly (Kumar & Aldrich, 2010). All employees are reminded of such mandates as they move into various areas of the system.

In terms of future directions, now that robust and capable systems are in place the organization has committed to the continuous review of processes to assess evolving needs and respond accordingly. Digitizing processes has helped replace obsolete methods and produce something sustainable and beneficial for the long-term. The organization is committed to leveraging technology to transform complexity in health care into opportunities and benefit not only the organization, but patients most of all.
